Guide to Web StandardsA Roadmap to Web Standards is a blog entry from an expert in the field but written in a very accessible way. It contains links to many other resources to learn from and the comments are quite helpful as well.

Obvious Tip: And as you teach yourself, the best thing you can do is to Google any term you don't know yet.

Do

Corinth Church DaytonHTML Editor: NVU is a full featured editor with a helpful web standards mode. It also has FTP capabilities, so you can manage sites online right from the side menu. There is a version for every operating system out there.

CyberduckFTP: Cyberduck for Mac OS X is an easy to use but powerful FTP program with lots of support.

For Windows, the most popular is Cute FTP.

OpenSongOpen Song: This isn't a web site building program, but while we're giving recommendations, it is a fantastic all-in-one presentation program made especially for churches. It manages songs and chords, transposes on the fly, supports multiple Bible translations, and is incredibly easy to use. It will save you hours each week in preparation if you're currently using PowerPoint. Plus, it will save your computer operator from pulling out his or her hair if your worship leader likes to repeat choruses out of order. Best of all, it's free!

"Web design isn't hard as long as you have an eye for detail. It's kind of like changing the oil in your car. It's not hard to do yourself if you have the time and want to learn and don't mind getting your hands dirty."

"I've never learned to change my own oil because I like the convenience of having someone do it for me and I can afford the $30 every 3000 miles

"If you feel about websites the way I feel about my car's oil, give me a call. If not, enjoy the free resources!"
